“I feel that this job requires trust as one of the most important things, and trust requires time.” David Sasaki, Program Officer at the Hewlett Foundation

“Strategic communications are always important, but I think often as an organization you think that you have to have this overarching strategic communications goal speaking to a thousand different audiences. Over the course of being a program officer, I’ve learned to really value very specifically thinking about who your audience is, almost to the point of name and last name, and really honing into that.” Alfonsina Peñaloza, Program Officer at the Hewlett Foundation

As part of the retrospective and evaluation of 23 years of grantmaking in Mexico, we asked David Sasaki and Alfonsina Peñaloza to share a conversation with us around their experience working at the foundation and how that has influenced their work.

In this video, David and Alfonsina talk about adjusting to work cultures in Mexico and California, the political climate, and how to better support work on gender, transparency, participation and accountability (they also share what they would fund if they won the lottery!).
